The soil (if very compact) can be lightened by adding 30% of our Cypripedium substrate.

This is the UK native wild Common Spotted which grows in neutral to alkaline soils which are often damp. Can be grow in grassland, the garden or a pot. It is a good beginners orchid as it will usually bulk up fairly quickly.

This hybrid resembles Cypripedium kentuckiense but has flowers with a bright yellow hoof and long, curly, brownish-red petals. Like all hybrids including Cypripedium kentuckiense, the flowers are generally quite large, bloom a little later and, above all, are more resistant to summer heat than other Cypripediums. These are vigorous plants with 2 to 3 stems.
