Planting
Pogonia should be planted in a humid area and have its feet in the water all year round. These orchids like acid soils (peat, sphagnum), damp sandy soil, marshes and the banks of streams and ponds.
Exposure
These orchids are well adapted to a sunny exposure on submerged soil.
Throughout the seasons...
During the winter, the plant persists as a rhizome and develops new shoots in spring. Pogonia is very hardy and does not require any special protection in winter.
Pogonia shoots develop in early spring and the flowers bloom in summer. After flowering, the foliage remains green for a few more months before withering and disappearing completely during the winter dormancy.
Over the years and through successive cycles of growth and dormancy, the Pogonia not only grows stronger but also multiplies through the annual appearance of new shoots.
