Goodyera repens - Creeping Lady’s tresses

Botanical rarity

Goodyera repens is the only Goodyera species found in Europe. It is described as creeping because of its stolons, which ensure the spread of the species in its environment.

It is a late flowering plant in the outdoor orchid bed. It blooms from June to August in a 20-30 cm high spike with up to 25 milky green hairy flowers.

It is a plant of dry to humid forest environments, often emerging from the surrounding vegetation when light breaks through. It is particularly fond of coniferous forests.
